Η tax credit, incentive to merge transport

The tax deduction, an incentive for transport mergers

The governments

From 2010 with Law 3887 until today, every government has tried to consolidate the scattered small carriers, in order to create stronger entities in the Industry. Various incentives were given, but not enough to convince motorists to go ahead with amalgamation, with a few exceptions.

TIF 21

Now, from the TIF stage, the government has announced yet another incentive, which provides that merging companies will benefit from a tax deduction of 30% on an annual basis, for three years. Even sole proprietorships can collude by setting up a new legal entity and benefit from the same discount. Also, from October 1, 2021, the tax on capital accumulation will be reduced by 50% for all companies.

As the Secretary of State stated. of Finance, Apostolos Vesyropoulos, further specialization of this measure will follow in the immediate future.

Although the experience of the past does not leave optimistic messages for transport mergers, it would be good to make a review of the situation by transport companies that show signs of inability to cope with competition, because inability to cope with competition leads to the end of any activity and the closure of these transports.

The current situation

After all, the demands of customers (shippers) have grown steeply, with the result that dozens of old transport companies - mainly family businesses - cannot cope and the transport work is passed to the big transport companies. Perhaps the specialization of the above measures that will take place in the next few days will be an occasion for discussions between transport companies.
