What what is ABS and how it works

What is ABS and how does it work?

The anti-lock braking system or else ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) is nothing new in trucks.

In fact, it has been mandatory for decades in all new vehicles sold in the European market and beyond. Nevertheless, there are many who do not know what it does and how it works ABS. So in order to understand its existence, it is good to know what exactly it is.

What is ABS?

So ABS, as its name suggests, Anti-Lock Braking System, exists to prevent the wheels from "locking" (blocking) during braking.

It intervenes automatically as soon as it detects from the sensors that there is a risk of the wheels locking. Therefore in a panic braking, where the driver presses the pedal very hard and for a long time, without reducing the power at all, locking the wheels is almost certain.

By avoiding blocking though, it can maneuver and avoid a potential collision.

The operation of the ABS is perceived by the vibrations in the brake pedal, where under no circumstances do we lift our foot from the brake.

Variations of ABS

ABS now has combinations with various individual electronic brake assist systems. In addition are the electronic brake pressure distributor and the emergency brake assist system.

These contribute to optimal brake pressure and a shorter stopping distance. Of course, the condition and quality of the road surface and that of the tires play a big role here.

Instead of an epilogue
