In trucks, unlike passenger cars, there is usually the use of pneumatic (air) braking systems. The dryer air filter is part of the system. It removes moisture from the air, which enters from the compressor. Thus, there is a reduction in damage due to corrosion of the parts and, therefore, their expensive repair.
Truck Dryer Air Filter Types
The key element of this section is the replaceable truck air dryer filter cartridge. This is a container filled with a granular material that absorbs moisture. This material may be:
- Zeolite. It retains its properties during storage for a long time.
- Silicagel (Silicon Gel). These grains are resistant to mechanical damage.
Based on whether they have additives, spare parts can be:
- With oil separator. In this particular case, two filters are available in the same housing. One of them is to remove pollutants from the air before it enters the dehumidifier. Malfunctions and causes
Over time, there is a loss of the material's ability to absorb moisture, which causes a lot of liquid to accumulate when it is in operation. If it has ice in the winter season, the air dryer may break down. This can be done in case the heating is not active.
Often, the operation of the material is interrupted, due to the lubrication of the grains. This causes more oil to be released from the compressor.
The truck dryer air filter can fail due to a broken control valve. This section propels the air from the material to the receivers. For example, a clogged valve causes a compressor malfunction.
How to detect any faults
The need to install a new cartridge should be understood by condensation in the receiver. To check this, open the corresponding drain valve, based on the manufacturer's instructions. The receiver should be checked every day and the filler should be changed at least once a year, before winter sets in. The moisture separation unit must be replaced, usually if its valve fails.
