More safety in road traffic
As of September 1st, all newly registered semi-trailers must comply with the new ECE regulation 58.03 for bumpers. For more safety on the road, the requirements for bumpers on commercial vehicles have increased.
The change that occurred
From September 1, 2021, all newly registered semi-trailers will be required to have a bumper & rider bars. Vehicles equipped with bumper protection & cyclist bars according to ECE Regulation 58.02 will no longer be registered after 31 August 2021.
Where the cyclist poles help
This protective device prevents other road users from getting under the vehicle. The gap between the tractor's wheels and those of the semi-trailer is a frequent death trap for pedestrians and cyclists.
The changes at a glance:
- The maximum ground clearance must now be 450mm instead of 550mm previously
The forces to be absorbed have almost doubled to 18 tons, compared to the old requirements (previously 10 tons)
- Due to the specified reduced ground clearance, the lower protection lever arm extends
